Who will be the Chief Minister?

In the recently concluded assembly elections in Odisha, the BJP emerged as the single majority party after losing to the BJD and proceeded towards forming the government. Preparations for swearing-in are in full swing. Earlier, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Odisha for election campaign, he repeatedly reiterated that BJP will form the government in the state and an orthodox girl or boy will be the chief minister. The Prime Minister also announced that the Chief Minister of Odisha will be sworn in on June 10. So now there is a lot of discussion about who BJP will make as Chief Minister. On the other hand, whether there will be only Chief Minister or one or two Deputy Chief Ministers like other BJP-ruled states is also being discussed. The BJP leaders said that the party is deliberating on it.

The swearing-in ceremony of Vajpayee will be held at Janata Maidan on 10th. Other members of the cabinet, including the new chief minister, will take oath on the occasion. Senior officials were formally informed about this last Thursday. The people of the state are keeping an eye on who will be nominated as the chief ministerial candidate. In such a situation, there is talk about who is most likely to be chosen as the Chief Minister of the BJP from among the victorious MLAs. This time, 20 MPs have won out of 21 Lok Sabha seats from Odisha. Due to this number, the dignity of Vajpayee at the center has been saved. Among the newly elected MPs, there are some familiar faces or powerful leaders in the center, even if there is a general discussion about getting the chief minister’s seat, political commentators have opined that it is a difficult matter in Eber’s position. This time, the BJP has failed to secure a single majority at the Center and is completely dependent on other coalition parties to form the government. Therefore, it is not believed that BJP will vacate a Lok Sabha seat at the center by choosing any winning MP as Chief Minister. If a winning MP is made Chief Minister here and a by-poll is held in that Lok Sabha seat, the certainty of BJP winning there again will come into question. Because there is talk in the political circles that after removing the BJJ, which has been in power for 24 years in Odisha, if there is a by-election in any seat, the people may favor the said party. On the other hand, BJP state president Manmohan Samal has been defeated in this election. At such a time, it is not possible that any newly elected MLA will agree to leave his seat to make him the Chief Minister. Therefore, there is a good chance that the BJP central leaders will install any of the elected MLAs in the Chief Minister’s seat. On the other hand, it cannot be said that one of the winning MLAs will not put an OBC, tribal, dalit candidate in the seat of the chief minister.

50 government officials have been selected to take charge of preparations for the swearing-in ceremony at Janata Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and State Minister Amit Shah along with chief ministers of NDA-ruled states are scheduled to attend the event. However, regarding the swearing-in ceremony, the state president of BJP held a formal discussion with Vijaya MLA, district president and other functionaries through video conferencing on Friday. A senior leader of the party informed that the bjp MLA party will hold a meeting on the 8th. Apart from this, it is also possible to get involved by appointing an observer from the center. It may be recalled here that Congress never asked the MLAs and selected the Chief Ministerial candidate. A name appears in a ‘closed involve ‘. which is declared by the Central Controller. It remains to be seen if there will be orders from the high command to stop jumping like Congress. Elsewhere, whether the chief ministerial candidate will be selected after openly seeking the opinion of MLAs is the current talk.
