The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted the formation of a fresh cyclonic circulation over the North Andaman Sea around October 20 and will intensify into a low-pressure area around October 22 over the Central Bay of Bengal.
The pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal had turned into a cyclonic storm. Now it has hit the coast. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rains in these three states for the next 3 days. At the same time, due to the rain for the last 3 days, the situation in these states is already very bad. The condition has become very bad due to heavy rains in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu for the last 3 days.
IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra shared the impact of the system on Odisha and said, “October is prone to cyclone for Odisha. As per the prediction, a cyclonic circulation will form on October 20 over the Andaman Sea. It will move west and north-west ward and intensify into a low-pressure area over the central Bay of Bengal around October 22. Later it will move towards north-west direction. It is likely to intensify into a depression around October 24.”
“Under its influence, Odisha is likely to experience rainfall activities from October 23 to 25. Odisha will experience maximum rainfall on October 24,” Mohapatra added.
