UK PM Rishi Sunak, wife Akshata Murty’s fortunes rise in 2024 Rich List.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty have seen their wealth increase in the 2024 edition of the Sunday Times Rich List. The couple, both 44 years old, have moved up from 275th place last year to 245th place this year, with an estimated wealth of GBP 651 million. This makes them the “wealthiest people to call 10 Downing Street home”.

Akshata Murty’s earnings are reported to far exceed that of her husband. Financial statements published in February indicate that Rishi Sunak made GBP 2.2 million in 2022-23, while Akshata Murty received an estimated GBP 13 million in dividends over the past year.

The couple’s most valuable asset is Akshata Murty’s shareholding in Infosys, an Indian IT company co-founded by her father, Narayan Murthy. Over the past year, the value of these shares has grown by GBP 108.8 million to nearly GBP 590 million. Murty received about GBP 13 million in dividends during that time and is expected to receive another GBP 10.5 million this year.

The Hinduja family, of Indian origin, tops the 2024 Sunday Times Rich List with a wealth of GBP 37.196 billion. Their group of companies operates in various sectors, including automotive, oil and speciality chemicals, banking and finance, IT, cyber security, healthcare, trading, infrastructure project development, media and entertainment, power, and real estate.

The Reuben brothers, also of Indian origin, have risen to third place on the list with an estimated fortune of GBP 24.977 billion. Lakshmi N. Mittal, the NRI tycoon of ArcelorMittal steelworks, is at No. 8 with an estimated wealth of GBP 14.921 billion. Anil Agarwal, the industrialist of Vedanta Resources, is at No. 23 with an estimated wealth of GBP 7 billion.

Other Indian-origin billionaires on the list include textiles entrepreneur Prakash Lohia at No. 30 with an estimated wealth of GBP 6.23 billion, retail majors Mohsin and Zuber Issa at No. 39 with GBP 5 billion, and pharma chiefs Navin and Varsha Engineer at No. 58 with GBP 3 billion.
