The first full budget of the third phase of the Modi government was presented yesterday. Odisha has received a grant of Rs 10,586 crore in the railway budget. Which is about 500 crore more than the last annual grant. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnab gave this information in the press conference today and said that this is a record number of grants. Railway Minister said that Prime Minister Modi has a special focus on the railway infrastructure of Odisha.

In a press conference, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnab said, during the Congress-led ‘UPA’ government, the state was getting annual railway grant of 838 crores. Now Odisha is getting 12 times more grant than the ‘UPA’ government. 40 different railway projects are currently underway in Odisha. 100 percent electrification work has also been completed in Odisha. 427 flyovers/underpasses have been constructed in the state in 10 years. The minister also said that the infrastructure improvement work of 59 railway stations in the state is going on.

Yesterday Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented a total budget of Rs 48 lakh crore, while the railways got an expenditure of Rs 2.62 lakh crore. The Center has allocated Rs 10,536 crore for the development of railway infrastructure in Odisha for the financial year 2024-25. Which is Rs 524 crore more than the approved amount in the last year’s budget, according to government sources.

East Coast Railway passes the longest distance through Odisha. Bhubaneswar is also the headquarters of East Coast Railway. In the last three years, the central government has been spending an average of Rs 10,000 crore annually for Odisha in the field of railways. However, this time the grant amount has increased by about 500 crores. The Railway Minister has compared the current budget amount with the Congress government. The Prime Minister has given special focus to the railway infrastructure of Odisha and East India, said the departmental minister. Between the years 2009 and 2014, the average annual expenditure for the state was about Rs 838 crore. Ashwini said that the amount of allocation for the state has increased almost 12 times under the Modi government.
