The committee was formed in September last year. 18 states will be affected if elections are held simultaneously. Union Cabinet approves One Nation One Poll. The Union Cabinet approved Ramnath Kovind’s report. Approved the report of former President Ramnath Kovind. A committee was formed under the chairmanship of Kovind for One Nation One Poll. The Union Cabinet today approved One Nation One Poll in Modi Government 3.0. The report of the high-level committee formed for the Oban Nation Oban Election has been approved by the Modi government cabinet.

The Union Cabinet decision was announced by Union IT and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. At this time, Vaishnab said, “Elections were held simultaneously in the country from 1952 to 1967. After that, in 1999, the Law Commission in its 170th report said that Lok Sabha and all assembly elections should be held simultaneously in every 5 years. So that the development of the country will continue and electoral expenses will be reduced in the country. Law and order situation does not arise frequently for elections as extensive police administration is employed for election law enforcement and it is very costly.

However, along with this, various organizations and institutions of the country have repeatedly proposed and recommended for conducting elections together. In addition, the parliamentary committee, in 2015, in its 79th report, recommended to the central government for simultaneous elections in two phases. After that, the central government formed a committee under the leadership of former President Ram Nath Kovind. However, Ramnath Kovind’s committee, after extensive and detailed discussions with experts from all fields, recommended simultaneous elections.”

In the year 2003, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee raised this issue with Congress President Sonia Gandhi, but the issue could not be resolved. In 2010, senior BJP leader Lalkrishna Advani discussed this issue with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Later in 2014, the BJP, in its electoral manifesto, said it would develop a process for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Then in 2023 and last year, the central government formed a committee under the leadership of former President Ram Nath Kovind to hold ‘One Nation One Election’ simultaneously. However, on March 14 this year, the committee submitted this report to President Draupadi Murmu. 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his Independence Day speech on August 15 that the time has come for people to come together for this election. This is the great call of the present time. Modi said that due to frequent elections, the development of the country is hindered.
