Kolkata : The incident of mistreatment and murder of a woman doctor at Kar Medical College and Hospital has created an uproar across the country. Due to this, doctors have gone on strike in different parts of the country. The CBI has started an investigation on the orders of the Kolkata High Court. The examination of the chairman and head of the medical college has started. In this regard, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called a nationwide strike. The strike will continue from 6 am on Saturday to 6 am on Sunday.
On the other hand, late on Wednesday night, RG. After the violence at Kar Hospital, the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has decided to launch a nationwide agitation. The FORDA, which called off the agitation after discussions with the Union Health Minister, has announced another strike and the IMA strike has threatened to seriously disrupt patient care across the country tomorrow.
The IMA has also raised questions about the violence against women doctors and the violence in the hospital after the murder. IMA has strongly condemned this heinous incident. The IMA has decided to go on a 24-hour strike tomorrow demanding justice for the dead doctors, a central law for the protection of doctors, and declaring hospitals safe zones. IMA National President Dr. R. V. Ashokan and freelance editor Dr. Anil Kumar J. Nayak said in a joint statement that the hospital’s security protocol is no less than the airport’s security protocol. Therefore, the central government needs to take steps to declare it as a safe zone, install CCTV, deploy security personnel and other protocols. There is also a need to enact special laws for the protection of doctors. Along with this, the IMA has also demanded that the accused in the Kolkata incident should be punished within a specified period, and the families of the women doctors who died in the brutality should be paid a respectable amount of compensation.
