President Droupadi Murmu has invited Narendra Modi, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) National Democratic Alliance (NDA), to form the next union government following the coalition’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. This will be Modi’s third term as Prime Minister, making him the first three-term PM since Jawaharlal Nehru of the Congress party.

Narendra Modi and his new cabinet members will take their oaths at 6 pm on Sunday, June 9th. The President’s statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan mentioned that she was satisfied with the letters of support received, confirming that the BJP-led NDA alliance has the majority support of the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha and is capable of forming a stable government.

After meeting with President Murmu, Narendra Modi addressed the media and expressed his gratitude to the people for giving the NDA a third term. He assured the nation that the government will continue to work with the same dedication and at the same pace as in the previous terms.

Although the BJP fell 32 seats short of the majority mark, it will retain power for a third consecutive term with the support of its allies. The TDP, led by Chandrababu Naidu, and the JDU, led by Nitish Kumar, are seen as critical in ensuring the BJP’s ability to form and run the government for the full five-year term.

Negotiations are currently underway between the BJP and its key allies. The JDU expects at least two cabinet berths and a junior minister’s post, as well as a common minimum program, in return for its support. Other parties, such as the Shiv Sena and the LJP, are also seeking ministerial positions and other rewards for their support.

In conclusion, President Droupadi Murmu has invited Narendra Modi to form the next union government, and he will be sworn in as Prime Minister for a historic third consecutive term. The BJP-led NDA alliance, with the support of its allies, has crossed the majority mark in the Lok Sabha. Negotiations are ongoing to determine the allocation of ministerial berths and other rewards for the supporting parties.
