Mootv Odisha / Bhubaneswar : Confusion has arisen again regarding the student council elections. Yesterday, the Law Minister said that there will be no student council elections this year, while the Higher Education Minister in the Assembly has replied that the deliberations are going on for peaceful elections this year. In two days, the opposition has surrounded the government due to the different answers of the two ministers. The opposition BJJ and Congress have sharply criticized the law minister’s answer on the issue of student council elections, citing it as an escapist attitude. Accordingly, many questions have been raised about the Law Minister’s announcement about the Higher Education Department.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said on Sunday that there will be no college elections this year. The higher education minister’s failure to comment on the matter created more controversy. However, on Tuesday in the Legislative Assembly, MLA Tusarkanti Behera’s non-starring question, Higher Education Minister Suryasulhi Suraj said in the Minister House today that the government is still deliberating on conducting elections with peace order this year. On the one hand, while the departmental minister is talking about the ongoing deliberations for the election, there is a question about the authority and basis on which the law minister announced that the election will not be held. There is even a question whether the higher education department has gone beyond the control of the departmental minister.
The state’s leading student organizations like Chhatra BJD, Chhatra Congress AISF have made different comments regarding the law minister’s remarks and the higher education minister’s reply. Similarly, senior Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati has been rounding up the government on this issue. He said that he would hold elections after coming to the BJP government in the state; But now they are refusing. He said that if the state government does not hold elections this year, then the Youth Congress and the Students’ Congress will hold a state-wide agitation.
Similarly, BJD MLA Debiranjan Tripathy said that BJP’s words are no longer relevant. This is already evident in the Biju Patnaik sports honor case. Student Parliament elections are held in the month of October. So it is not acceptable to say that there is no time for elections. There is plenty of time for student parliament elections. But the state government does not have the mindset for student parliament elections. Fearing possible defeat, they have changed their minds. Therefore, Minister of Higher Education should make it clear,” said Debiranjan Tripathy .
