Disappointing performance of colleges in Odisha in terms of NAAC ranking. The college is not interested in getting NAAC grade. Why? Because said the chancellor of Brahmapur University.
Mootv Odisha / Berhampur :
In higher educational institutions of Odisha, NAAC status is decreasing. Colleges in the state have been showing dismal performance in terms of NAAC Grade. Only less than 20 percent of colleges and universities in the state are applying for NAAC recognition. Therefore, in the coming days, a high-level review will be conducted at Uttar Pradesh University, Bhubaneswar, with the aim of increasing the number of NAAC-accredited colleges with the chancellors of all universities and higher education institutions in eastern India. NAAC Chairman, Director, Editor of UGC and senior officers will attend it. Binary accreditation (accreditation and non-accreditation) will be discussed in the review meeting. This information was given by Professor Gitanjali Das, Chancellor of Berhampur University. As only 15 percent of colleges under Brahmapur University apply for NAAC grades, efforts have been started to improve this disappointing situation, the chancellor said.
Higher education institutions have to first apply for NAAC status. Colleges cannot get any facility from the Government of India until they get NAAC status. There will be cutbacks in grant funding from Rusha Grant to the development of colleges and universities. Can’t even be a member of A.I.U. Without recognition, meritorious students may find it difficult to get admission in any higher institution, to get a scholarship. Therefore, since there are many important issues related to NAAC status, the importance of it for an educational institution will be informed from the chancellor to the chairpersons of the college. So that they will inform their own educational institutions and the educational institutions under them and implement it in the coming days,” said the Chancellor of Brahampur.
Five years have passed since the period of NAAC recognition from some colleges affiliated to Brahmapur University and many colleges in the state. However, the colleges are not applying for re-examination of their infrastructure and teaching systems.
Professor Gitanjali Das said that fear is behind the colleges under the university not applying NAAC. Many do not apply for fear that they will not be found if they apply or will get a very low grade. Therefore, the chancellor of Brahampur University said that he himself informed all the chairpersons about the need for NAAC status and the benefits that will be available after getting this status.
